Psychotherapy via referral

The Swedish healthcare system might seem complex or new to you, but don’t worry. We have compiled all the key information about how you seek psychotherapy via referral right here!

Region Skåne offers a service called Vårdval Psykoterapi that allows those who are registered in Skåne to seek psychotherapy within the healthcare guarantee. The healthcare guarantee includes problems like depression, anxiety and relational issues. Therapy forms included are Psychodynamic therapy (PDT), Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal therapy (IPT). You can get a referral from your health center, which you then send to a clinic in paper format. When we get your referral we contact you to let you know that we have received your referral. We also inform you of the waiting time for the treatment you are interested in. For more information about our waiting times, please see our FAQ section. The waiting time for psychotherapy via referral is often longer than for private psychotherapy. One of our therapists will contact you when the waiting time is due to book a first appointment.

Region Jönköping, Uppsala and Örebro provides psychotherapy via referral through psychiatric clinics. Psychotherapy in this regions are thus intended to treat diagnoses on psychiatric level rather than primary care level. To get an appointment at a psychiatric clinic you start by getting to your health care center which will refer you to the right center.

Our treatments are included in the High-cost protection (Högkostnadsskydd). This means that you pay between 200 - 260 sek, depending on what amount your region has decided on, per session until you reach 1300 sek (Skåne and Uppsala) or 1400 sek (Örebro and Nässjö). After that the cost of your sessions are covered by the high cost protection for a period of time. If you want to speak in your native language during therapy you have the right to an interpreter. You can read more about interpretation in 1177:  Interpretation to other languages
